Fat Tyre Flyers Downhill MTB

Its all downhill...

BARJARG - ROUND 2 RESULTS

What a great weekend - not a fatties race, but we did help out the guys at Samaria with a few items - timing included, so I feel its OK to share the results with you all here.

Dual Slalom - Survey Results

After nearly 50 people completed the survey, we have decided to publish what you think about the new dual slalom track and how events should be run:

  • 90% of you think that existing DH categories should apply to DS
  • Only 33% of you want fat-arse jumps that are difficult to roll over
  • 40% of people want the DS races to be held on the saturday of a DH race weekend
  • 66% of you want a combined points table as well as separate rankings for DS and DH
  • Only 37% think that BMX riders would bother attending a DS race, with 45% thinking we should try and attract their attention.
  • $35 is the average price that people think is fair for a DS race day, and half would pay more if shuttles were provided.
  • The average number of races per season that people would like is 5

Thanks for everyone who took part. We will certainly take notice of the results and try and match the events to those.

RESULTS

They are up! Go to the results page: RESULTS HERE...

ATTENDANCE

What can we say about this weekend? We were all blown away by the numbers - over 290 registrations, with about 275 riders (we had a few DNS').

SPONSORS

A big thank you to all the sponsors that helped make the event so colourful and donated some great prizes:

  • Monza Imports (Fox, SRAM, Truvativ, Rock Shox, Avid, Dainese, Intense Cycles)
  • Altitude Mountain Sports - Mount Buller
  • Groupe Sportiv (Kona, Mavic, Sombrio, Pedros)
  • Yarra Valley Cycles
  • Brunswick Street Cycles
  • Australian Mountain Bike Magazine

TRANSPORT

Given the huge number of riders that attended the race, the transport on the whole ran very smoothly. A few delays were caused by injuries, and the new "B" line on the road gap also gave us a few headaches. So thanks for being patient.

A huge thanks you to all the guys who ran the transport - they know who they are (Neil & Dave), but also to anyone else who drove or who marshaled - we cant do it without you.

FOOD

Ron, Mary-Anne, Lyne, Andrea, Michelle - what a fantastic job you all did. We think you guys fed around 600 people for two days. What an effort!

REGISTRATION

We had a few problems with our online rego system, but on the whole rego ran smoothly - mainly thanks to Andrea, Mandy, Bec & Amanda. Its a big job, and they handle all the permutations very well.

TIMING

A big thanks to Bec, Amanda and Andrea. Its probably the most stressful part of the whole weekend, because we know how important times are to the sport and to every individual. Distractions can cause mistakes, but on the whole the results were pretty good. I have yet to fully verify the times, but it looks at present that we got a 99% accuracy ratio. Which is pretty good. But a big  sorry to the 1% who got dud times (4 riders), but as they say. "That's racing". For the future - all you guys who want your times, be patient or you'll risk stuffing up someone elses!

FIRST AID

A big thanks to the first aid guys - you were pretty busy for a while there and you handled it all very well.

COFFEE

Di and Ray - where woudl us caffeine addicts be wiothout you guys?! Come back soon!

WHAT DID WE LEARN

Every race we do, we learn something else. Here's what we learned this time:

  • Always have spare catridges for your printer
  • Never use a printer roll in your timing device that has been transported back and forwards between Sydney
  • NEVER let anyone try and talk to you while you are timing a race
  • Problems do not increase in a linear relationship once you get more than 200 riders. They increase exponentially
  • Eveyone thinks they can do it better than those that are running the race, but dont often volunteer for any duties! (we knew that already!)
